I am very happy to report that I not only finished the Redwork Doll Quilt pattern, but also another pattern I've been working on featuring adorable vintage-style baby animals. Both quilts are similar in style and size: 17" x 21" with embroidered 4-inch blocks joined with lattice strips. These require very few materials and can be made from scraps of fabric and left-over pieces of batting. And they are ideal for teaching needlework embroidery and quilt making, on a manageable scale, for beginners young and old.
What I love about this method is that you can stamp and stitch four blocks at a time. By doing it this way the design field is large enough to easily fit inside an embroidery hoop, which makes perfect sense rather than trying to stitch small individual squares. Plus it saves fabric!
So, after embroidering all the blocks, you cut out the squares and strips (directions and sizes are included with the pattern) and assemble your quilt top. I'm still working on this one, will show it completed at some point; I just couldn't wait to show you. So many projects...so little time!!
Here's what it will look like once completed.

Happily stitching now . . . until next time.
Precious! Love the embroidery images. Sweet innocence.
