Hello Everyone! Not to worry, I'm still here. Alive and well and still kicking. Still indulging, as you can see. Where did sweet November skip off to anyway? I looked up and it was gone! Time seems to be speeding up. Days are flying by faster than ever and before I know it my blog has gathered dust. No excuse really, I've just been busy and preoccupied with this and that and the other, all good mind you, but leaving me with less time to gather my thoughts for a blog post. So, today I got out my camera and looked around and decided to share something I've been working on.
Like my Christmas in a Box diorama! I love how it turned out. It's become a happy little corner of my world as of late. A place for all the little odds and ends that I've had tucked away. In case you're wondering, the box is made out of 1/4" core board and covered with scrapbook paper; the floor is popsicle-type craft sticks stained with ordinary watercolor out of my paint box. It's very lightweight, yet surprisingly sturdy from the paper and glue. Just a note about foam core board; it tends to bow, so I only use it to make small boxes. This one measures approximately 8" x 6 " x 4". Perfect for a book-shelf decoration.
I've had some of these miniature pieces for years and years. They're a funny scale. Smaller than 1:12 and bigger than 1:24. Maybe 1:18 or so? Odd sizes. That wood fireplace is old, as are the two rubber, bendable German dolls. I kind of worked around them as a starting point. The rocking chair is a tad large, but I needed something to fill that corner and it doesn't fit anywhere else--I think it was originally a Christmas ornament. The metal gold tree with the star topper is actually a new place card holder! I added some glitz and glued it to a table I made from a recycled plastic lid from a jar.
If you look close, there's a flickering flame in the fireplace. The logs are woody stems I gathered from the yard. They are glued together and sprinkled with red glitter, creating a realistic glowing ember effect. The logs are arranged to make a space for a battery tea light candle that is inserted from the back.
These tea light candles are great for this and can be easily switched on and off or replaced when need be. I covered the plastic "flame" with red glitter glue.
To give you a sense of the size, it's shown here with a box that is done in 1:8 scale.
Anyway, that's just one of the little projects I've been up to. You can find some of my other miniature creations at the MeadowSweet WorkShop on Etsy. I wish I had time to share some of those things here, but alas, there are only so many hours in a day. However, I am glad to report that our tree is up and decorated but OH My! Here it is, only 15 days 'til Christmas. Still need to get my Christmas cards in the mail, wrap presents, plan menus, bake--and speaking of that, I do believe I smell gingerbread coming from the kitchen...what a nice surprise!
Holiday Cheers!
Hey, Vicki! What an adorable little scene you created! And your little treat looks delicious. Hope you have a blessed Christmas. Take care!
