Rather than succumb to cabin fever mid winter, there were a few tiny things that happily occupied my time this month. First, there was a little decorating.
A project that involved crafting a half-round window valance for the pink dollhouse bedroom. This canopy sits securely on top of the window trim so I didn't have to glue it. Which was good because I couldn't make up my mind where I liked it best. Over the bed (which I have yet to make) and that will have a curtain falling around both sides of it like a crown canopy. Very princess like.
Or over the vanity. I'd make another canopy, except that I only had the tiniest scrap of wallpaper left to make the first one, which by some miracle I'd managed to find at the bottom of a long forgotten drawer. I dare say, this wallpaper, and its companion rose pattern, I purchased at the same time I bought the dollhouse--in 1992!
Either way, at either window, I am pretty happy with it. However, the dollhouse in general, like real-life these days, seemed a bit too quiet and I was feeling a little lonely. To remedy that, I decided to throw a party.
First, I had to invite some guests. But before I could invite them, I had to literally make them. A shopkeeper and bakery lady were the first to arrive on the scene. They were more than happy to help out in the kitchen.
Word got around and pretty soon the relatives started arriving. (I decided to leave the Christmas decorations up for the festivities.) Which encouraged much singing.
The doorbell kept on ringing. The neighbors heard the singing and popped over to share some stories over hot cocoa and tea cakes.
Young and old alike gathered in the dollhouse.
And a most merry time was had by all!
My New Year's resolution this year was three-fold; to learn, make and do something new. So far, I'm staying on track. Making a bendable, realistic 6" doll has been a learning curve though and I still have lots to learn. But I am enjoying the process along the way--even if my characters are a bit quirky. I just can't seem to make them any other way.
See what I mean? I'll just have to keep working at it.
