Splash & Dash

I hate to mention the C word, but ya know, it is getting close.  Christmas bazaars and holiday fairs are popping up all over the place and it's impossible not to get caught up in the spirit of it when you see all the crafting that's been going on.   I really get inspired by that.  Plus, I've been working on the free-with-purchase transfer designs with a holiday theme (up on the website now here), so my thoughts have already been drifting there for awhile.

I was out yesterday, at one of the local traveling craft shows, and found some beautiful things, including this [old] redwork splasher.  In case you don't know what a splasher is, don't worry, I didn't either until a customer recently told me about them.  And like most things that are brought to your attention, you start to see them and realize what they are.  Apparently, these little lovelies were used before modern plumbing, when pretty cloths were hung behind the "sink" to keep water from splashing up onto the wall.  Hence the term splashers.   They usually depicted a water scene of some kind, but maybe this was for a child's room outfitted with a wash basin & pitcher.  What a happy scene to wake up to each morning.

Well, it's Friday already.  The week sure flew by fast here.  Thanksgiving's next week too, followed by a birthday milestone.  My "baby" turns ten!  It's hard to fathom, but we'll be celebrating that, and hosting turkey dinner with all the trimmings here for our families this year too.  (There are so many of us that we need to take turns.)  Needless to say, I'm going to be pretty busy and the blog may not get updated 'til it's all over.   I'll try to pop in and say 'hello' if I can manage to get out of the kitchen!

Lovely finds - and nope, not too early for Christmas talk in this house! I'm in full on get those presents done mode. Happy Thanksgiving!

I've never heard of splashers either, but I think it's a fabulous idea. Something to make you go "hmm" and stare at the wall above your sink. It has been looking a bit dreary...

The splashers look too nice to be used that way. But what a clever idea!!

I know that there is a felt/craft show at Los Angeles City College on Sunday that I would love to go to after church for homemade goodies. Here is the link http://www.feltclub.com/news/index.php

enjoy your holiday! i musy say, you always find the best places to shop! thanks for always sharing the photos! we need more of those places in maine!

Happy birthday to your baby. She will be always your baby.
As I say about mine - she is now only 3 - she will be crossing the aisle someday and I will still call her my baby.
About your findings: very pretty ones, no doubt.
About your kitchen work: would you mind to post some pictures ? I can't wait to see them.

Beautiful things!
My "baby" turns 13 next week...unbelievable here, too!

Love the redwork!

That's interesting about the spashers but what a shame to use them for something so mundane. The beautiful things in your pics have me drooling!

Always a delight to visit your blog to see what special finds you are sharing with fellow bloggers. How nice to find so many other people are interested in the joys of bringing old needlecrafts back to life.

Oh, how beautiful. Thank you for the lesson on splashers, very interesting and beautiful. I love your blog, so much happiness, creativity and light here.

Splashers...so that's what they are! I have a few, but had no idea how they were used. It's great to find out this useful information.

Happy Thanksgiving! What an adorable splasher - I have learned something today!

I have just found your blog, and it's wonderful. I will be back to visit again.
