Symptoms of the Season
One of my poor little gals has been suffering all week with the first cold of the season, with lots of coughs and sniffles and the general misery that comes with the territory of being sick. I've been holding my own---with honey & lemon, echinacea tea, and a couple of zicam swabs shoved up my nose, trying not to catch it. You know, doing everything short of wearing a bag of herbs around my neck, like grandmother Sadie, from Holland, used to do. I found that creepy as a kid, but now I'm beginning to understand and appreciate the wisdom of that, and wish I'd learned what was inside that magic muslin pouch of
hers. She had some odd habits and beliefs, but was, after all the mother of a dozen children (all her own) and we never-ever questioned her, thinking that she must know wise things we didn't from her vast experience. Well, for the most part my cold-resisting-regime was working, until about 4:00 AM this morning when I heard a scream from down the hall and suddenly Ginger burst through my bedroom door with a raging
nosebleed, which sent me scit-scatting all over the place in a sleepy one-eyed panic. She tends to be a wee bit dramatic and this usually gets played out in the wee hours of the morning when I'm least expecting it, and when blood is involved it's immensely more dramatic, for everyone, but we finally got things under control, got everything and everyone cleaned up, and settled back into bed again just before the sun came up. So now I'm starting to feel very tired and my throat is sore and my head is pounding, and there's nothing more to do but give in and let the germs take me down. I'm shuffling around the house today, not getting much done, kicking back a little, and resting. I've got a fresh supply of magazines and an armload of books from the library that I've been itching to delve into, and some quilting I can do from my chair between naps. So I'm good.
Hopefully, I'll be back on my feet soon.
These pictures, by the way, are from the vintage craft show last week.
Went back on the last day and wandered around a little more.
It was apparent that a lot of merchandise had moved out the door since I was there.
Although it's hard to believe looking at all this.
I didn't buy anything this time; was more taken with the artful arrangements of all the odds and ends, old and new, that were so beautifully displayed.
The colors in this corner were so pretty.
(Click on the top images to see them full-size.)
Enjoy the tour!

Hope you are feeling better soon! Looks like that was definitely a very nice show. Lots of pretties to look at!

Feel better soon! I swear by Goldenseal - I take it in capsule form whenever I feel a cold threatening and it either keeps the cold away or, if I do succumb, it keeps it down to one day of feeling grotty and a couple of days of sniffles and it's over. Try it, you'll be amazed! Available at health stores.

Sick over here too. Some are over it(nathan and noah)some are in the middle of it (me and mark) and some are just getting it (that would be hannah) Lots of laying around and Andy Griffith episodes :)
I know all to well what's it's like waking up to bloody noses. Nathan used to get them all.the.time. He seems to have grown out of them now.
Hope you're well soon! xo.

Well now Vicki, don't you just hate a cold? It has so many annoying symptoms. I guess that bag of goodies to hang around your neck is sounding pretty good about now. Get well soon, and Ginger too.

Sorry to hear the bug has found it's way to your house. I'm gushing over your Blackberry Junction trip. Must take note of this magical event! And in a grange no less! I love granges... went to my first grange feed in Olney a few weeks ago. Magical community warmth that's indescribable.

Is there a set date for this? How do you find out about it? I'd like to go in November if there's another one.

My grandmother, who was born in a log cabin in 1913, says that the pouch around your neck is supposed to be filled with asafoetida.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that you and Ginger aren't feeling well. Hopefully, you will both be better soon, and won't catch anything else this season.
Lovely vignettes in the shop. I like the way they arrange things with color themes. It sometimes helps, when there is soooo much to look at!
Take care Vicki...and Miss Ginger too!

Ypu describe situations so well. I really liked the "all over the place in a sleepy one-eyed panic".
I couldn't stop laughing.
I hope you both get well soon.

Awe...hope you're all feeling better soon. Some germs are just worse than others and we just have to submit to them and rest. Hard for some to do...but it's got to be done.
I love the pics from the show. Wish there were something like that around here. They make it look awfully pretty!

Please feel better soon! It's no fun to have a cold. Maybe your treatments before hand will lessen the duration. At least you can get some reading done!

Aww Poor Ginger, bloody noses are kind of scarey. Snuggling up with a book sounds really good to me. Take care of yourself and enjoy your sitting and reading time.
