Doll Quilt Give-Away
I recently sent this off to its new home and was so happy with it, that I began making another one right away, and then another and another. I can't stop. I'm making all these little quilts (mostly) from scraps that I've saved from bigger projects, and pure inspiration. I don't have to go any further than my own backyard either, because the flora and fauna all around me provide it. Spring arrived right on cue this year, and the beautiful sunshine actually made it possible for me to get semi-decent pictures in my sewing room this morning. A few works-in-progress. Love these colors.
There's not a lot of fore-thought going into what I'm doing here, which is my usual mode of operandi. I just start pulling pieces out of the scrap bins and let them fall where they may. Thus the randomness of the designs and colors. I still play with different combinations until the right balance and harmony is achieved, but most of the time I just let it happen, because I'm always interested in discovering new combinations and seeing what surprises emerge from this process: the endless possibilities of color and pattern. I'm so happy with these and a few others I've already completed that aren't shown.
The design wall I made last year has been such a great tool and is perfect for laying things out, standing back and analyzing. I've decided to offer some of my small quilts for sale in the coming weeks. After all, I only have so much wall space, and I'm obviously on a roll. I also thought it would be fun to offer a freebie to celebrate the new season. It will be a surprise, for both of us, so please don't ask if you can have this one or that one, cuz I don't even know which one it will be yet. So. If you're interested in receiving one of my little handmade doll quilts, (sight unseen) just leave a comment on THIS post, and at the end of the month (March 31, 2007) I will draw one name out of a hat, I mean, Easter Bonnet, and announce the winner on my blog with pictures of the quilt on April Fool's Day. (No foolin' either.) Offer is open to anyone, anywhere...so let's hear from you lurkers out there too.

Hi Vicki! I would love a chance to have one of your beautiful quilts! I have suddenly become entralled with quilting and embroidery--I watch all the quilting shows on PBS and I am going to take up embroidery again after not having sewn a stitch for about 25 years. Your work is lovely!

I've enjoyed this little glimpse into your craft room Vicki. Your design wall reminds me of the flannel boards I used to make when I was a student teacher in a pre-school once upon a time.
Love that little spring lamb made of French knots. So sweet!

Oh count me in. I have been wanting and meaning to make a doll quilt for my daughter but well, having a non-napping 2.5 year old just doesn't leave me much time for sewing. I can knit alright but dragging the sewing machine out and taking over the dining table is never a quick task. I'll be doing a little fingers crossed dance on the draw date! Thanks.

De-lurking . . after reading for over a year!!! How sad - I love your blog. Pop me in the bonnet! I am working on paper piecing a little "Grandmother's Garden" Quilt for my 5yo. dd. I should be working on spring dresses but I am determined to get this done first lol. Cheers!
