Paper & Paste
Lots of kid-craft around here to report on. This is one of the spring displays that we've been adding to. Also finished the papier-mache eggs and chicks that we started last month. The girls loved making these even though it was a somewhat lengthy process. The upside is that papier-mache (one of the oldest art forms known), is kid friendly and uses a minimum of materials,
especially when you recycle things found around the house. For these though, we used Styrofoam forms and covered them with strips of newspaper dipped in a mixture of flour, water and a few drops of white glue to form a loose paste. How-to here. The large eggs were decoupaged with vintage die-cut German scrap. I'm so crazy about this stuff! It comes in all kinds of designs and themes; mostly flowers, children, animals, butterflies, and lovely stuff like that. Get a load of these jammin' bunny folk; another source here. And of coarse, there's all of this over here, which is where I found these and for the best prices.
Yesterday we met with friends at the local multi-cultural center and made cascarones, which are blown-out decorated eggs, filled with colorful paper confetti. These get cracked over the heads of friends to "bring them good fortune". How-to make them here. Then last week we made Papel Picado banners from folded, cut tissue paper. Tutorial here.
Grace's likes making pop-up 3-D cards. She's also been making the most amazing journals for her friends. I got one too but will have to show it later... have to get back to the kitchen...expecting family for dinner and festivities tomorrow and I've got a sink full of dishes waiting. And a few surprises to throw together.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
I love the paper mache chicks and eggs. Thanks for the "how-to", I would like to do some paper mache with my daughters.

Beautiful Easter decorations.
I used to collect scraps as a kid, and swap them, as did my mother. I still have some of my old ones.
I don't know if you're aware of this but, at least here, repro scraps are available at very affordable prices. Let me know if you want me to send you some.

One more thing -- is that backdrop hand-dyed? It reminds me of lazure. So pretty.
